How The Light Gets In

30 x 30 x 2.5 in, 2024

This work was inspired by a hike near Grand Coulee Dam in Washington, where a thin crack in a large rock held a small patch of moss. That quiet sign of life in a difficult place stayed with me and shaped this piece. The composition brings together restrained geometry, a vertical red line that recalls a fissure, and a small inset space holding two wood stones that suggest connection and presence. Titled after a Leonard Cohen song , the work reflects on resilience, vulnerability, and the beauty that can emerge in places of fracture.
