JILL KYONG

artist: relief art • sculpture • furniture

When I discovered the katalox board used in this piece, I formed an immediate attachment to the ready-made image that nature had already created.  I have not changed or added to the colors in the board, nature created the tree within a tree. By subtly rounding the front edges, I altered its profile in a way that might go unnoticed at first glance, but, viewing or touching the board reveals my intentional manipulation, sanding, and finishing, consistent with the craftsmanship in all my work.  The wood stones still represent people: their struggles, moments of being stuck in tight places, and the journey of letting go and finding resolution. Falling Stones, like much of my work, combines aesthetics and meaning to offer quiet beauty and introspection.
